In 2011, Ouided Bouchamaoui etched her name into history by becoming the first woman to assume the prestigious position of President of the Tunisian Union of Industry, Commerce, and Handicrafts (UTICA). UTICA, founded in 1947, holds a significant place as the leading employers' organization in Tunisia, representing the industrial, commercial, and artisanal sectors. In this role, she tirelessly worked to promote economic growth, foster investment, and address labor-related challenges through constructive negotiations with the Tunisian General Labour Union.
Champion of Education and Human Development
Ouided Bouchamaoui's commitment to her community extends beyond the boardroom. She is the driving force behind the Hedi Bouchamaoui Foundation, an institution dedicated to advancing education and human resource development. Through this foundation, she has played a pivotal role in creating opportunities for individuals to access quality education and skill-building resources.
Nobel Peace Prize Laureate
Ouided Bouchamaoui's most prominent achievement is her integral role in the Tunisian National Dialogue, which earned her and the Quartet Prize the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize in 2015. This historic dialogue was instrumental in Tunisia's democratic transition, culminating in presidential and legislative elections and the approval of the 2014 Constitution.
Global Peace Ambassador
Following the Nobel Peace Prize recognition, Ouided Bouchamaoui took on the role of a Peace Envoy, traveling the world to share the invaluable lessons of dialogue and communication in times of crisis. She emphasized how dialogue and mediation can transform perceptions, uncover innovative solutions, and redefine approaches to conflict resolution. Her lectures, speeches, and high-level training courses on arbitration, crisis management, communication, and leadership have enriched diverse institutions across the globe.
